TEDxAdelaide - Cath Dwyer - Community and Media Collaboration for Digital Storytelling

First there were the broadcasters, then there was peer-to-peer media sharing. ABC Open sits where the two converge: a conduit for the flow of stories and ideas between the "active audience" and the national broadcaster. After one year, and thousands of contributions from regional Australia, Cath Dwyer has presented the case for community participation in mainstream media.Cath Dwyer is Co-Project Director of ABC Open. Formerly a radio producer and audio feature maker, Cath developed an interest in non-linear multiplatform storytelling while working at triplej in the 1990s, where she produced radio stories and features, and created online content in the early days of the station's website. Since then she's lectured at University of Technology, Sydney. In 2009, she returned to the ABC to head up the ambitious project ABC Open, which brings digital skills to regional communities and distributes their stories through the ABC.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
