Betsy Hartmann, professor of development studies and director of the Population and Development Program at Hampshire College, is a longstanding activist in the international women's health movement. She writes, speaks, and teaches on the intersections between international population, migration, environment, and security concerns. She is the author of the feminist classic, Reproductive Rights and Wrongs: The Global Politics of Population Control, co-author of A Quiet Violence: View from a Bangladesh Village, and co-editor of the anthology, Making Threats: Biofears and Environmental Anxieties.In this talk she discusses the roots of apocalyptic thinking in American environmentalism.http://www.hampshire.edu/About TEDx, x = independently organized eventIn the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
