TEDxBoston - Spencer Culhane & Julianne Rhoads - Let the Sun Shine In

Most often in architecture school you do get to build the things that you design, but they're at 1/40th of their actual scale. For a group of us this just wasn't enough. We wanted to do something more, something bigger, something real. Spencer Culhane and Julianne Rhodes, students from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and UMass Lowell, are competing as two of the members of Team Massachusetts in the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathalon. They underscore the importance of collaboration by uniting architecture and engineering to uncover creative solutions to the inefficient heating and the impractical space occupancy of a typical American home. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
