On weekdays, Emmanuel Mayssat, a graduate of Yale, is an important businessman. On weekends, he is a volunteer at One Million LIghts. In 2007, Emmanuel joined ONe Million Lights to help distribute rechargeable solar powered lights in off-grid, rural areas around the world. She organizes ongoing projects for distributing solar powered lights in communities without electricity in the island province of Catanduanes. Over the last year, she, along with other high school students in Canada, South Africa, and the Philippines, have spearheaded a project with a goal of raising 25,000 dollars for 1000 lights by the end of this year. In April 2011, Sierra personally traveled to the village of Dugui Too as a part of a successful distribution of the first 250 lights to locals. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
