TEDxCardiff Clive Bates Why time complicates climate change

TEDxCardiff.co.uk - - - - Clive Bates has been Director General for Sustainable Futures at the Welsh Assembly Government since March 2009, responsible for three departments covering environment, energy, housing, planning, rural affairs, animal health, culture, tourism and sport. Following a degree in Engineering at Cambridge University, he joined the IT company IBM working in marketing for seven years. In a switch of career he took a Masters in Environmental Technology at Imperial College and went on to work for environment groups including Greenpeace in energy and climate change. In 1997, he became director of the high profile public health campaigning organisation, Action on Smoking and Health. In early 2003, he became a senior adviser in the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit, running projects on subjects as diverse as cities, police reform, NHS modernisation, housing growth and productivity. He moved to the Environment Agency in December 2005, to be Head of Environmental Policy. Prior to joining the Welsh Assembly Government he established the UN Environment Programme presence in Sudan, based in Khartoum running a programme focussed on improving natural resource management to address extreme poverty and conflict.
