TEDxBrainport 2011 - Bert Meijer - Why we cannot make life?

Why is it important to make life? We are quickly using up all natural resources while creating more and more waste. To ensure we can survive on earth in the future, we will need to be able to create simple life.The key step is to be able to make cells. Currently, we don't know enough about the inner workings of cells. We will have to work together as chemists, biologists, engineers and mathematicians to make millions of atoms and molecules interact in the complex structure of a cell. We have made the first steps , but need to continue this important work, if only for our children.About TEDx.TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading." The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.At TEDx events, a screening of TEDTalks videos -- or a combination of live presenters and TEDTalks videos -- sparks deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.
