Maya Ajmera is the founder of The Global Fund for Children and gave this talk at TEDxAshokaU: Universities Driving Global Change at Duke University on February 25, 2011. The Global Fund for Children is a philanthropic intermediary invests in innovative, community-based organizations working with some of the world's most vulnerable children and youth. Since 1997, GFC has awarded nearly $20 million in capital to over 400 grassroots organizations in 75 countries. In addition, GFC has a dynamic media program focused on children's books, films, and documentary photography. She is the co-author of many Global Fund for Children books, including the award-winning Children from Australia to Zimbabwe and Faith. What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self- organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
