TEDxGrandValley - Uma Mishra - Fostering Community through Development Work

Uma Mishra is a senior at Grand Valley State University pursuing an English (Language and Literature) major and Chemistry minor. Through her time in service in the US Army she became aware of how human action can leave an indelible mark on society, the environment, and our way of life. She started the GVSU Ghana Nsu (Water) Project to learn not only about sustainable community development but also how to approach development from a humanistic perspective rather than a capitalist one. Through this project, she has not only learned a great deal about herself but also that society has lost its sense of duty to the global community. Although this realization may seem devastating, it excites her because the room for possibilities and opportunities is endless. http://www.tedxgrandvalley.com About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
