TEDxGrandValley - David Coffey - From Consuming Information to Constructing Understanding

David Coffey, a faculty member at Grand Valley State University since 2000, is currently an Associate Professor in his first year of a three-year joint appointment between the Mathematics Department and the College of Education. Dr. Coffey is committed to facilitating capacity and agency in learners at all levels. His courses reflect promising practices that represent educational research from across the disciplines. His students engage in a workshop approach, based on an effective model of literacy learning, that supports self-directed learning. In 2007, GVSU recognized his efforts with the Faculty Teaching & Learning Center's Pew Teaching Excellence Award. http://www.tedxgrandvalley.com About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
