TEDxUVM - Will Raap - 07/19/10

Will Raap is the founder of Gardener's Supply Company, an employee-owned online and catalogue gardening retail, and the Intervale Center, a non-profit organization that develops farm- and land-based enterprises that generate economic and social opportunity while protecting natural resources. Whether it is here in Vermont or in the mountains of Costa Rica, Will works to create and nurture local food, waste recycling and land restoration enterprises that support a more sustainable economy and future. For his presentation he will reference a TED talk by Bill Gates where he presented a formula to solve climate change. Will argues that Gate's was half wrong, and lacked all-important divisor related to the role land and oceans play as carbon sinks and sources. His talk will focus on how America can shift from a Climate Change laggard to a global leader while helping to solve the water crisis, ecosystem collapse and hunger too. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
