TEDxPalermo - Gianni Gebbia - Circular Breathing Technique for a Sax Performance

Gianni Gebbia was born in Palermo in 1961. Since the half of the 80ties he has been present in the field of new jazz and improvised music taking part in the main festivals among which Banlieues Blues, Total Music Meeting, Saalfelden, Le Mans, Northsea Jazz festival, Rive De Gier, Akut Mainz, Angelica, Noci, Roma, Yokohama, Vancouver Jazz Festival and many others. The saxophonist from Palermo has recorded and co-operated with hundreds of artists such as Fred Frith, Peter Kowald, Gunther Sommer, Yoshimitsu Ichiraku, Satoko Fuji, Louis Sclavis, Jon Raskin, Jim O' Rourke, Heiner Goebbels, Gunther Sommer, Roy Paci, Pino Minafra, Ernst Reijsiger. In 1990 he was awarded as best talent by Musica Jazz magazine and now he is in the list of top best Italian saxophonists. He is author of sound-tracks for Raul Ruiz, Salvo Cuccia and Roberto And?'s films and of multimedia performances. Gebbia's production includes several recordings such as Outland, Cappuccini Klang, together with the counter bassist Peter Kowald and with the drummer Gunther baby Sommer, Body Limits and Terra Arsa. He is listed in the Encyclopaedia of Jazz, by Richard Cook, The Penguin Dictionary of Jazz and The Japanese Anthology Best Saxophone Players About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
