Poet, artist and educator Kate Anders, one of the co-chairs of TEDxConejo, reads an original poem, accompanied by world music artist Yuval Ron, in the closing session of TEDxConejo. Kate Anders is the School to Career Coordinator for Newbury Park High School. In her forty years as an educator, she has served as a county Director of Secondary Support Services, high school Dean of Attendance, secondary teacher of English, journalism, filmmaking and technology, adjunct university professor and hosted an award winning cable television show for high school students. ? In 2000, USA Today selected Kate as an outstanding teacher.? In 2002, she received the Teaching Excellence Award from American Councils, a branch of the U.S. Department of State. As part of the American Councils Program, she traveled to Russia and worked with Russian teachers in their classrooms. ? Kate has written for newspapers and educational publications. Her poetry and art have also appeared in print including the cover art for this TEDx event. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
