Mary-Jo Land is a co-creator of The Afghanistan Childrens Peace Project (www.journeyofpeace.ca ). In association with the Centre for Peace Studies at McMaster University, in 2007, and now as a consultant for Help the Afghan Children, Mary-Jo provides teacher educators in Afghanistan training in The Journey of Peace curriculum. Within the 16 stories of The Journey of Peace, Jameela and her family learn to cope with war trauma, family relationships changed by war, bombing, displacement and maiming. Throughout the stories, and with the help of puppets, students explore feelings and ideas about the frightening events they have experienced, gender roles, peace knowledge and skills, ethnic diversity, hope and resilience. Mary-Jo is a Certified Child Psychotherapist and Play Therapist working in private practice in Cambridge and Ancaster Ontario. She specializes in child trauma and attachment. About TEDx, x=independently organize event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self- organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.
