In February 2012, the U.S. Department of Education and the Council of the Great City Schools hosted a School Turnaround Summit for 26 districts with a significant number of schools undergoing school turnaround through the School Improvement Grant (SIG) program, along with their State turnaround teams. The Summit began with a panel, "Turnaround from the State to the School," which highlighted the turnaround work done by Kentucky thus far. The panel was moderated by Secretary Arne Duncan and featured four panelists from all levels of the Kentucky educational system, including Dewey Hensley, Associate Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Education; Donna Hargens, Superintendent of the Jefferson County Public Schools; David Mike, Principal of Western High School; and Brent McKim, President of the Jefferson County Teachers Association.
