How to Clean a Paint Brush

Learn how to properly clean a paint brush after you have finished your paint project with this step by step guide from Lowe's. Clean your paintbrush immediately and work in a well-ventilated area. Using paper towels, newspaper or a rag, brush off the excess paint in your paintbrush. Using warm - not hot - water, mild soap, and a brush comb to work the paint out of the brush. Repeat this until the water runs clear. Mix 8 cups of warm water with 1/4 cup of liquid fabric softener and dip the brush in the mixture before shaping the bristles back in place. This way the brush will remain soft long after it dries. Set the brush on its handle to dry.
