How to Build an Entertaining Cart Part 4: Wheels, Tile & Finish

In the last part of the video series from Lowe's Shop Class, learn how to add the wheels and tile to the cart and learn how to finish your entertaining cart. First, sand everything, wipe it down with a tack cloth and apply a coat. Use an exterior varnish because the cart is made for outdoor entertaining. When the first coat is dry, apply a second. When that coat is dry, sand everything lightly, wipe it down, and apply the final coat. For the castors, take a T nut and drive it into the holes you previously drilled. Then thread the castors into the T nuts and tighten them down. The front wheel setup consists of an axle, a washer, a wheel and a cap nut on each end. Start with a steel rod, and attach a cap nut but using a socket and a hammer. Add a wheel and a washer and feed it through the holes in the front legs. Then add another washer and another wheel. Then make a mark on the rod 1/2 inch away from the wheel. Remove the steel rod and cut that end off at the mark with a hack saw. Repeat the assembly process and add that second cap nut. The top accommodates two 18"x18" stone tiles. Because the cart will be used outside, use natural stone instead of porcelain. Put some aluminum angle on each side, to keep the tiles from moving around too much. Start by measuring the distance from the middle rail to the front rail. Cut the aluminum angle to that length. Set the angle so the tiles can move around just a little bit. Drill holes in your angle, put your angles and tiles in place, line everything up, drill pilot holes and attach your angle with screws. Put about 9 little rubber bumpers on the bottom of each tile, before you set them in place. Then set the tiles in place.
