How to Change a Lawn Mower Fuel Filter -- John Deere
For your lawn mower to perform efficiently year after year changing the mowers fuel filter is essential. To perform this maintenance task you will need pliers, shop towels, a drain pan, and a new fuel filter. To begin, you will want to park the mower outdoors on a solid, level surface. Inspect the fuel filter and hoses that connect to it. If they hoses look worn or cracked, they should be replaced. The arrow on the fuel filter shows which way the gas flows. The arrow on the new filter will need to point the same direction as the arrow on the old one. Place the drain pan under the fuel filter to collect the fuel that spills when the hoses are disconnected. Make sure there are no sparks, nor anyone smoking in the area. Use the pliers to loosen the hose clamps and move them away from the fuel filter. Twist and pull the hoses from the old fuel filter and quickly reattach the hoses to the new filter. Reposition the hose clamps so they secure the hoses to the fuel filter. Clean up spilled fuel and properly dispose of the old filter, fuel, and fuel soaked towels. Run the engine briefly and then check for leaks. If leaks are present, tighten the hoses.
