How to Build a Coffee Table, Part 3: Stool Bases

In the previous videos we have worked on constructing the table and assembling the stool seats, in this video we will build the stool bases. Each stool will need 4 frames, 2 stiles and 2 rails, as well and a long and short side of each frame. First, cut the wood to length on the miter saw, adding pocket holes. Then attach rails to the stiles. Once you have the 4 frames (2 long and 2 short), attach with glue and nails. Measure the diagonals to make sure the stool is square. Now, it is time to fill in the empty spaces with 4 side panels, 4 end panels and 2 bottom panels. Cut these pieces to width with the table saw and then to length with the miter saw. Focus first on the end and side panels, inserting them to the frames with glue and brands. Then, add cleats to hold the bottom panels in. Put the long cleats flush with the bottom of the end panels using glue and brads. Do the same with the short cleats, but on the other sides. Finally, attach the bottom panels with glue and brads. Now you have one complete stool base for your coffee table! Watch Part 4 of 'How to Build a Coffee Table' to learn how to build the stools' removable lids and add any finishing touches.
