The Air Race (1933) (Willie Whopper)

This pilot of the series was never officially released theatrically, but it was released to TV in the 1950's on local kids' TV shows. In this pilot, Willie is depicted as fat; in the subsequent series, he is not. In one scene, an angel character gives a flyer the finger! (This cartoon was produced pre-Code.) In another, an airplane crashes through a "fireworks" stand, leaving up the letters which spell "iwerks." Famous female aviator Amelia Earhart is caricatured. It would be several years after this cartoon that she and her plane went missing on her around the world quest.
