Thornton Willis New Paintings at ELIZABETH HARRIS GALLERY

James Kalm has been watching the developments of Thornton Willis's practice since the late 1970s. He's watched as the "Wedge" series garnered Willis international attention. He's watched as the "Chrystal": series confounded and disappointed some art world pundits who expect artists to mindlessly repeat a signature motif. He watched as the "Lattice" series provoked a greater employment of line and color. And now, James Kalm brings viewers along so they too might witness the next step in this artists evolution, the "Step-Up" paintings. Accomplished with the artist's masterful brushwork, and an intense palette, these works begin a new direction of painterly investigation. Includes an interview with Thornton Willis.
