Williamsburg 2000 Curated by Larry Walczak at ART 101

James Kalm bikes across the Williamsburg Bridge to attend the "tribal reunion" that Larry Walczak's "Williamsburg 2000" initiated. Beginning in the late 1980's, rumblings were heard in Brooklyn that reverberated throughout the art world. Refugees fleeing the real estate crunch in Soho, the AIDS implosion of the East Village and the general crash of the art market began washing up on the shores of this North Brooklyn neighborhood. Although long a bastion for artist's studios, new galleries and performance venues began popping up. The scene established a Do It Yourself attitude with a media savvy that has provided a model for contemporary creative communities everywhere. Includes a birthday interview with Larry Walczak the curator and director of eye wash a seminal Williamsburg gallery.
