Karen Kilimnik at 303 GALLERY
James Kalm returns from hiatus and slips into Chelsea to view an historical recreation. In 1989 Karen Kilimnik created the installation "Hellfire Club Episode of the Avengers", which became an influential piece and the artist's breakout exhibition. Twenty-two years later, this piece is recreated and paired with drawings from the same period, allowing the public to reappraise this melding of Scatter Art and the Fem-Pop aesthetic. In the intervening period, this sensibility has become a prevalent aesthetic among young artists.
