Peter Plagens and Joan Bankemper at NANCY HOFFMAN GALLERY

James Kalm has been reading the critical writings of Peter Plagens since the mid seventies, and he's also been visiting exhibitions by this equally committed painter since the early eighties. With this show, "I Don't Give a Damn/Every Moment Counts" we catch up with Plagens to view his knowing m?lange of Pop-Abstraction and hear his views on painting's relationship to criticism, and the challenges faced as a "maturing" artist..Joan Bankemper's ceramic sculpture are ostensibly "bird habitats", but their extravagant accumulations of richly glazed tea sets, kitchen utensils and Oriental souvenirs present a decorative bouquet that might overwhelm any humble sparrow.
