Studio Visit with Cris Dam

James Kalm drops in for a studio visit with Cris Dam at his studio in the dynamic neighborhood of Mo-Jo, east of Williamsburg. In preparation of his second one-man exhibition Cris Dam discusses his influences and goals in the creation of this new body of work. Drawing on sources as diverse as Don Judd, Richard Serra and James Turrell, Dam blends High Formalist images with whimsical cartoon and graffiti based renderings to create paintings that are an intriguing visual statement that simultaneously pokes fun at, and pays homage to, the giants of Minimal and Post-Minimal art.
