Solar Array Ceremony: April 23, 2012 | American Public University System

On April 23, 2012, American Public University System (APUS) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for APUS' new solar array, West Virginia's largest. The new, state-of-the-art array includes more than 1,600 solar panels on a canopy structure in the parking lot behind the new APUS Financial Center, scheduled for completion later this year. Constructed by MTV Solar with American-made, SolarWorld components, it can produce 480,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually -- enough electricity to power 30 homes -- and features 15 electric vehicle charging stations available to APUS employees, students and visitors. In this video from the ceremony, APUS President & CEO Dr. Wallace E. Boston discusses the new array's energy-efficient design and the positive impact of the university's sustainability activities on the local community. Learn more at http://www.apus-sustainability.com
