The determinant of a (square) matrix is the most important function in mathematics, appearing in almost every aspect of the subject. Here we look at basic properties of the determinant, illustrated with 2x2 and 3x3 examples. In particular we relate the most important property with matrix multiplication, which is explained. This video is part of the WildTrig series, which introduces Rational Trigonometry and applies it to many different aspects of geometry.
