PRACTICE & TRAINING - The Ultimate Practice Routine for Modes Andrew for FREE lesson Handouts. This Video: March 09, 2012 | Search Videos by Title/Date.GO TO: Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question...Q: I totally get that I need to get to know each mode, but in terms of the fret board patterns, can I learn them as one pattern and then apply them as appropriate to each mode? In other words, not learning a different set of "scales" for each mode, just positioning them as appropriate?Eric -- Bainbridge Island, WA. USAA: When I was first introduced to the modes about 30 years ago I was given a handout of scale patterns with absolutely no direction! No explanation about how to practice them, or how they relate to tonality, or how harmony plays a role in their application. It wasn't until I was attending GIT in 1991 that I had a practice routine introduced to me that rolled all of the important principles together and gave me the ability to finally use the modes effectively and to do what I always wanted them to do, which is to make music with them.
