British Task Force Sail To Falkand Islands - A Day That Shook The World [HD]. The British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher announced that Britain was going to send a huge task force, 8000 miles away to drive the Argentine army out of the Falkland Islands. On Friday, 2 April 1982, A British Naval task force was sent to the islands in the south of the Atlantic to recapture the islands from Argentine forces. An amphibious assault was then launched by the British Army and Navy to engage the entrenched enemy. There was fierce fighting on land and in the air resulting in the deaths of 255 British and 649 Argentine sailors, airmen and soldiers. The war ended 14th June 1982, lasting only 74 days. The dispute between the two governments over sovereignty of the islands is ongoing.
