Professor Peter Piot MD PhD - 21st Century Challenges series

This talk is taken from the 21st Century Challenge event 'Global Heath in the 21st Century -- exploring whether societies can strike a balance between combating the dangers of viral outbreaks and pandemics, while maintaining the hopes of eradicating established diseases, such as malaria and HIV/AIDS, which continue to claim millions of lives each year? Professor Piot is the Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and Professor of Global Health. In 2009-2010 he was the Director of the Institute for Global Health at Imperial College, London. He was the founding Executive Director of UNAIDS and Under Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1995 until 2008, and was an Associate Director of the Global Programme on AIDS of WHO.
