Shall Felix the Cat Be Preserved? A Los Angeles Controversy (2007)

An advertising sign on the roof of Felix Chevrolet near downtown Los Angeles shows Felix the Cat, the cartoon character. A local commission decided the sign and building should be designated an historic landmark as part of a larger historic building preservation program. In the end, however, the Los Angeles City Council did not endorse the historic site designation. Nonetheless, as of 2012, the sign and building still remain as they were at the time of this 2007 controversy. The radio interview on this controversy aired on K C R W. Interviewer is Warren Olney.
