Unlike Florida, where George Wallace led other candidates, George McGovern was emerging as the leader in Wisconsin. He eventually became the Democratic presidential candidate and lost to Richard Nixon. (There was no contest on the Republican side with Nixon as the incumbent.) Other candidates were Edmund Muskie, John Lindsay, Hubert Humphrey, and Henry Jackson.
