A.5.1 Deduce the structure of a compound given information from 1H NMR spectrum IB Chemistry SL

How an NMR machine works is not in the SL syllabus -- but you do need to know how to interpret a simplified spectrum. The number of peaks = the number of different hydrogen environments in the molecule. Area under the peaks = ratio of hydrogen atoms in each environment. You need to be able to interpret spectra (sometimes with the help of the data booklet) and answer "word" questions.
