A.8.3 State that organic molecules containing a double bond absorb UV radiation IB Chemistry

Molecules with doubles bonds absorb in the UV (and if they have many conjugated double bonds then the visible also). UV excites the electrons in the double bonds and is absorbed. Delocalised electrons in an organic molecule will also absorb UV eg benzene, alkenes. Any double bond should work. Information about absorption can identify the bond.
