Undistorting, Rolling Shutter Fixing, GoPro 3D Hero on E+ electric mountain bike

WOW, that was a mouthful. Chris Maynard here from cmiVFX.com here to talk to you about filming extreme sports in stereoscopic. Sometimes in life you might want to mix some CG elements in footage that is normally just meant for standard broadcast delivery. 1) The TASK (LONG FORMAT VIDEO CLIP) I purchased the GoPro 3d Stereoscopic camera rig and 2 GoPro HD hero cameras. Last year i purchased a E+ Electric Mountain Bike (FOR THIS TASK I USED: http://epluselectricbike.com/buy-bikes-online/electric-mountain-bikes/e-elite-mountain-bike-1000-watt ) 2) The Problem When shooting video with a CMOS sensor you get rolling shutter at high speeds. With the GoPro camera you have crazy instability that you need to account for. With a rigid mounting system, stabilizing footage is a nightmare. ESPECIALLY when going through a thick foliage area. We need to account for NOISE, VIDEO BLOCKING, LENS DISTORTION, ROLLING SHUTTER, FRAME SIZE. Additional considerations are 3d tracking, cg insertion and compositing 3) The Solution Because the day i did this, the tools i had access too where Autodesk Flame 2012, PFTrack 2011, GoPro Cineform codec 1) Using PFTrack 2011 (Or PFMatchit) you need to import the footage and create a stereo shutterfix, then lens undistort, then clip export. 2) Convert exports to frames, import into FLAME, reconverge the shots in action for better stereoscopy. 3) Preview through the Aja Kona 3G to Stereoscopic TV or preview using anaglyph glasses ARE THERE OTHER WAYS TO DO THIS? yea... i hear even iMovie can repair the rolling shutter from the CMOS.... but tools like Nuke have plugins to do the work. LONG FORMAT SHOTS: i preferred something that was more capable of handling sound and long format editing. Compositors are usually best used when doing super small clips. This test was to show a long format, to see what could be done with one long continuous shot.
