Overview of Minimal Polynomials

Matrix Theory: The Cayley-Hamilton Theorem shows that the characteristic polynomial of the square matrix A vanishes on A. Using properties of polynomials, we show that there exists a unique monic polynomial of smallest degree with this vanishing property, the minimal polynomial. We prove basic properties and give several examples.
