Faust and Other Tales The Paintings of Jan Müller at LORI BOOKSTEIN

Popping in unexpectedly, James Kalm was astounded to find this museum quality exhibition of the monumental late works of Jan Muller, a personal favorite. Having mounted a two person exhibition, "Search for the Unicorn: Paintings by Jan M?ller and Bob Thompson" in 1999, the Lori Bookstein Gallery spent years researching and curating this important show. Considered as an exotic and tragic figure with a cult following, during his brief career, Muller was generally recognized as the first of the Hans Hofmann students to return to the mythic and physiological complexities of figurative imagery. Using the vernacular of Abstract-Expressionism he nonetheless began a vibrant legacy of post abstract painting that continues today.
