The work of Thornton Dial has been compared to Julian Schnabel and Robert Rauschenberg, though before his discovery in the early eighties, this artist had never studied art or spent time visiting galleries or museums. After an initial boom of recognition over twenty years ago Dial has continued to develop his unique vision and recently been the subject of a major retrospective at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
