Stuart Nicholson (1960-2010) In Memory at DIESEL GALLERY

On a Saturday in early August 2010, I was driving in my neighborhood of Red Hook Brooklyn. Upon passing the apartment/gallery of Stuart Nicholson I noticed the Diesel sign was up. I've known Stuart for over ten years, admiring his courage in attempting to bring the work of artists to the public's attention, and about a year ago he'd told me of his bout with cancer. Stuart had been active in the East Village/ Lower East Side scene before bringing his gallery and artistic practice to Brooklyn in the late eighties. Instead of an opening the gallery was hosting a wake for Stuart . I stopped in and decided to document the out pouring of memories from friends whose lives had been touched by Stuart's generous spirit.
