Geometric Abstraction, 1987

DESCRIPTION"GEOMETRIC ABSTRACTION" HIGHLIGHTS THE WORK OF ARTISTS AL HELD, SOL LEWITT AND BRICE MARDEN. HELD CREATES IDEAL GEOMETRIC WORLDS IN HIS LARGE ACRYLIC PAINTINGS. LEWITT, ON THE OTHER HAND, CREATES A MORE SOMBER MOOD WITH HIS CONTRASTING BLACK AND WHITE SHAPES THAT ARE APPLIED DIRECTLY TO THE WALL OF THE GALLERY WHERE THEY ARE EXHIBITED. MARDEN PAINTS IN A REDUCTIVE GEOMETRIC STYLE. MARDEN IS FASCINATED WITH SPIRITUAL FORCES AND NUMBERS, PARTICULARLY THE NUMBER THREE.Transcript (PDF): http://archives.gov/social-media/transcripts/transcript-geometric-abstraction-55173.pdfCREATED BYU.S. Information Agency.
