The Sun blows out another big flare and CME!
On August 4 at 03:57 UT, the Sun's surface exploded with an M9.5 flare, somewhat more energetic than the one earlier this week. It also blew out a coronal mass ejection - a wave of subatomic particles - and that is expected to interact with the Earth's magnetic field on Friday. We may get aurorae from it![Note: on the video I said it was August 3: it was, in my time zone! Sorry for any confusion.]Credit: NASA/SDO/Helioviewer.org
