What is it like to learn while doing your job?

Pauline Paterson talks about how her career progressed from office temp to administration and accounts manager with the help of on the job training and other courses. She joined Buchan Technical Services to provide holiday cover in 1991 and her duties included covering phones, filing and office cleaning. Today Pauline is the company's administration and accounts manager for the company which is now part of James Fisher and Sons. Keen to develop her management skills, Pauline embarked on a Modern Apprenticeship management level 3 in February 2008 and completed it in January 2010. She is now motivating colleagues to develop their skills, and sees her next step as an intermediate level accounting course.
