Barry Adamson describes his journey to a job as a plumber. After leaving school he worked in an office drawing legal deed plans but wanted to get a trade. He was taken on by a Dunfermline company as an apprentice plumber and began attending Carnegie College, where he had to get used to the classroom after years of working. The downturn in the construction industry downturn meant he was made redundant from his plumbing apprenticeship before he completed his training, but he sent over 120 letters to other plumbing companies and was eventually taken on by A and J Glass.
