Ron Haskins: Poverty Dramatically Higher in Single-Parent Families

Ron Haskins: There are vast differences in poverty rates among children who live with their married parents and those who live in a female-headed family. The increasing number of single-parent families is one of the key reasons we have had such difficulty fighting poverty. On September 12, the day the Census poverty report is released, the Center on Children and Families at Brookings held its tenth annual briefing to discuss the new figures on poverty and income and their implications for families and policymakers.
