Slow Motion Hummingbirds 4 (HD 720p)

In this installment we see several colorful summer species, including a male Allen's and a male Black-Chinned, showing off his difficult-to-video purple neckband. These birds migrate into the area (Santa Clarita, California) in April/May where they nest and breed over the summer. As temperatures rise, natural nectar sources become mroe scarce and the hummingbird feeders become eagerly sought-after resources. Oddly, many feeders sit idle most of the time as these aggressive little birds vigorously hoard the feeder and spend more time chasing away other birds than feeding! "Why can't we all just... get along?" (Jack Nicholson, Mars Attacks) :-) The soundtrack is "Oberion" from the Silicon Landscape CD by Technician, available at JCMDI.COM. The odd bending and alternating wing movements are just an illusion caused by the camera's high speed shutter... something to do with the CMOS sensor scan rate in conjunction with the shutter movement itself. This strange effect only seems to appear when the shutter speed is cranked way up to 1/1000thsec and 1/2000sec. In reality, the wings really do move in parallel, and are fairly stiff so no detectable bending occurs. Better high speed footage can be seen in the later sequels to this show: Slow Motion Hummingbirds 5 (last half), 6, 7 and 8 (links below) 5: http://www.youtube.com/profile?annotation_id=annotation_576046&user=jcmegabyte&feature=iv#p/u/21/y0ebGWce4FY 6: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=jcmegabyte&annotation_id=annotation_537311&feature=iv#p/f/4/ek6FzjS7WGk 7: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6n92WeWDtE 8: http://www.youtube.com/user/jcmegabyte#p/c/DF1D8557B15407C1/1/qzLXYLXPkoE Happy birding! :-) Note: This is copyrighted material, however, you may download this footage directly from YouTube and use it free of charge in your own non-profit/non-commercial YouTube videos.
