I've been using SuperMemo with son, age 6, for about 5 months in our homeschooling work. According to the software's stats feature, he has 90% recall of around 1500 facts. This is just from doing review for 30-40 minutes per day. (I have to type the questions in, too, so it's not a trivial amount of work.) This means that he'll learn the salient facts of whatever book we put into SuperMemo in this way. We don't give this treatment to all books he reads (that would entail way too many questions). If you wonder why we're doing this, just ask yourself: would you like to be able to remember 90% of the facts you learned in your education? Besides, the more he learns now, the more he'll be able to learn later.
