Suppressing Votes or Standing Against Fraud?

Suppressing Votes or Standing Against Fraud? A Delve into '12 Event This summer, a group of journalists launched an investigation into one of the most heated political issues in America: voter ID laws. Are the laws upholding the right to vote by combating voter fraud-- or are they corroding it by preventing thousands of Americans from casting a ballot? The results of the ten-week investigation are in -- and the journalists are coming to New America to present their findings. The question of exactly how American citizens exercise their right to vote has become a source of partisan acrimony this election year. In a nation whose patchwork of jurisdictions feature conflicting voter ID and registration requirements, lawmakers struggle to strike a balance between safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and encouraging voter turnout. Tensions have peaked in response to legislative efforts to tighten ID requirements in key battleground states. The investigative student-run reporting project News21 sought to analyze the facts behind this controversial issue. Led by former Washington Post Executive Editor Len Downie, the young journalists conducted the most exhaustive study to date of the voting laws and electoral fraud nationwide. Join New America and News21 to learn more about the findings of this editorial series and the broader issue affecting this year's election. We will also examine the latest innovations in online voter information from Google and the Internet Archive. Participants Who Can Vote?
