The Rise of the Liberal Rich and the Remaking of America

Callahan, a Senior Fellow at Demos, is the author of the controversial new book, Fortunes of Change: The Rise of the Liberal Rich and the Remaking of America, which explores why so many affluent Americans vote Democratic and give money to progressive causes. Callahan argues that the rise of the knowledge economy has vastly enriched a highly educated class that tends to lean left and looks at how this trend is helping to redraw the electoral map, bankrolling a stronger Democratic Party, funding expanded advocacy efforts on issues such as gay rights and the environment, and funding a new progressive infrastructure. Michael Lind, Policy Director of the Economic Growth Program, will moderate the discussion -- exploring Callahan's arguments, and asking how they hold up in the context of this year's election politics. http://www.newamerica.net/events/2010/fortunes_of_change
