How to fix a leak: use teflon tape when you have a drip around plumbing threads....wherever that may be. If I'm installing new plumbing fittings, I just get in the habit of using teflon tape, so I don't have to fix a leak later. It's cheap insurance (using teflon tape for your plumbing leaks) if you know what I mean. It's a good idea to always have a little roll of teflon tape handy, for those pesky water leaks &/or drips. There's a right & wrong way to install teflon tape. Does it matter which way you install teflon tape for your threaded plumbing fittings? You bet. I'll let "joe" show you so you'll know.
