National Medal for Museum and Library Service Awarded to The New York Botanical Garden

On Friday, December 17, first lady Michelle Obama presented the 2010 National Medal for Museum and Library Services to representatives of The New York Botanical Garden in a White House ceremony. The National Medal, the highest honor the nation confers on these institutions, was accepted by Gregory Long, president of The New York Botanical Garden; Carrie Laney, Vice President for Government and Community Relations; and Karen Washington, a Bronx community activist who, along with the Botanical Garden's Bronx Green-Up program turned empty lots into beautiful gardens. The award was also presented to nine additional institutions
