Kate Winslet Escapes Island Fire

Bestselling Learn Guitar on Android! Kate Winslet's tropical vacation turned terrifying early Monday morning when a fire broke out at Richard Branson's Caribbean home where she and her family were staying. The actress, 35, her boyfriend, Louis Dowler, and her children Mia, 10, and Joe, 7, escaped, along with 16 other guests from the eight-bedroom Great House on Necker, Branson's private island in the British Virgin Islands. Branson told the AP that the fire broke out around 4 a.m. during a tropical storm. It is believed that a bolt of lightning most likely started the fire. His son Sam, 25, helped guests evacuate, and the house was "completely destroyed" by the fire. Others who managed to escape the blaze included Sir Richard's 90-year-old mother, Eve, and his daughter Holly, 29. The Virgin boss, 60, bought Necker Island in the early 1980s and began building the lavish eight-bedroom Great House in 1982. Other celebrities who have stayed there include Robert de Niro, Steven Spielberg, Mel Gibson and Oprah Winfrey. Affording great views, the Necker Island complex is used by the Branson family as well as friends, and can also be hired - but at great cost. The island has accommodation for 28 people and rents out at $53,000 to $54,000 a day.,,20521868,00.html
